Gladiatorially Triumphant Hound

Hound blog 18.6.2015

Kevster, Graham and myself made it to the quiz this week. The US open golf was on TV front of us and Tiger Woods' travails and Miley Cyrus's butt featured large. Also if Les lives in Cardiff, Tina in Buenos Aries and Gary in Budapest, where on earth does Mark live? Thankfully there were no strangely coloured alcohol free drinks on show and some proper drinking could take place.

Still can't seem to add recent pictures so here's a topical one. The 16th at Port Royal.

Anyway if you could see the pictures, lots of solo artists, Lulu, Sayer, Minogue and P!nk a good spot by Graham. The youngsters didn't have a clue who Billy Idol was. Bless. 10/10

Next up current affairs, we muddled through missing our maestro only not knowing which actor was recently spotted on a Boris bike. We went Spacey, it proved to be Schwarzenegger. Similar in more ways than you could imagine. 9/10.

Next up another D2 fave with food and drink. From somewhere I dragged Parkin out as Nov 5th themed but a few blank faces here. 7/10

Connections would follow and with answers of Amy, Howard, Lucy and Stuart staring back at me it could only be The Big Bang Theory. What joy! Now this is one of the few series/sitcoms I watch, am on level 20 at on quizup. Need I go on? So with such knowledge, success was assured. Disappointing that Siobhan couldn't get Rajesh Koothropoli into an answer but regular faves Penny, Leonard and even Leslie Winkle made it. Need you ask? Go on then 10/10.

10 pointers - irksomely I don't have good notes here but remember Ulrika's co-presenter on Gladiators (Awooga!). Now when I said Fash, someone and I'm not sure who so I'll say Kevster queried which one? Justin Fashanu, really? On the subject, favourite Gladiator anyone? Everyone had a favourite. Location of the UK Space Centre and follow up to Paradise Lost were the other questions. 3/3.

Half time came and went and we were into "What C". Cotopaxi, Coleraine and Cape Canaveral delivered but inevitably Chesterfield let us down, though it was the couch/brand of fags rather than the hellish, miserable, windswept Derbyshire town on this occasion. 8/10

Jeopardy next and it wouldn't be easy as the first banana skin was the day Solomon Grundy got married. Kevster got it down to 50/50 and I tried to confuse things going into Craig David mode but Graham had none of it, sticking an emphatic line through it. The battle that ended the Jacobite rebellion wasn't confident either and another swerve. One that did tickle Siobhan was who were the literary duo of Charles and Gerald which only the Hound got. As they say on Countdown, a safe 6(/10).

Music and "Just haven't met you yet" started the usual Mars/Murs/Bubble debate - it was Bubble and somewhere along here way an Ed Sheeran song that passed us by completely. 16/20 at a guess.

No idea on the last question and the scores were eagerly anticipated. Surely no-one had the jeopardy and the Hound 151 took it by 6! Cue another celebratory beer or so and a good night had by all.

Missing answers Copenhagen, Leicestershire, Paradise Regained, a toss up between Jet and Lightning, Culloden and Mills and Boon. Let's see if there's room for another picture.

  2. Robson old boy - it was the male Youngster who questioned which of the Fashanu brothers might have presented Gladiators. Damn cheek...
